Leo Hart, an eighteen-year-old, was unjustly convicted of murder and sentenced to the infamous Krimos Islands. It is a cluster of penal islands reserved for the most heinous of convicts – murderers, sociopaths, and those capable of taking a life without remorse.
Despite his gentle nature, Leo’s brother deems him too soft to survive in this harsh environment. However, Leo discovers that a portion of the islands is inhabited by a community of men seeking redemption for their past wrongdoings. He sees this as his only chance of survival.
The journey to this safer territory is treacherous, with hostile gangs and dangerous territories to navigate. Leo must decide who to trust and how much of his humanity he is willing to sacrifice to reach his destination.
Shade Owens has crafted a mesmerizing book that is impossible to put down. The story follows Leo’s struggles on Krimos Island, where he must learn to survive in a dystopian habitat filled with danger and uncertainty.
The vivid descriptions transport the reader to the island, experiencing the same hunger, strife, and drive for survival as Leo. And while the book ends on a cliffhanger, it only adds to the anticipation for the next installment in this gripping series.
I highly recommend pre-ordering Blood Kings by Shade Owens, set to release on 4/24/23. It is a must-read for fans of dystopian fiction. (Please note: this book contains trigger warnings and does not hold back on violence. Reader discretion is advised.)
