Where Echoes Die by Courtney Gould

The book, with its exceptional queer representation, skillful writing, and suspenseful plot, proved to be truly captivating. As someone who is not particularly drawn to science fiction, I was pleasantly surprised by how engrossed I became in the story. This was my first time delving into the author’s work, and I must commend their talent. As a reader, I greatly value the ability of a writer to weave a narrative that resonates within me, much like a melodic tune. In this regard, the book was a prime example, as I found myself eagerly turning the pages.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I must mention that I am open-minded to various forms of literature and have a deep appreciation for the artistic process. That being said, I do feel that the incorporation of more historical context pertaining to the town could have added further depth to the story. As it stands, I am left with lingering inquiries. Ultimately, I found myself vacillating between a 3-4 rating, but ultimately settled on a 3, in line with my assessment of similar books I have read this year.

My sincere gratitude to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an advance copy of this book.
