Blaine has skillfully crafted a dark and evocative southern gothic horror novel, aptly titled “A Dark Roux”. The prose is immersive and vivid, effortlessly transporting the reader to the eerie Bayou and the haunting world of the LaBeau Family. The attention to detail and vivid sensory descriptions are remarkable, imbuing the story with depth and intensity.
In a genre saturated with lackluster works, this book stands out for its meticulous attention to detail, rendering it a truly captivating read. From the first page, I was completely engrossed, feeling as though I was traversing the murky waters of the Bayou and delving into the dark and mysterious past of the LaBeau family.
As an avid reader, I have already completed five books in 2024, and I can confidently say that this is my favorite thus far. Notably, it was also my first experience with Blaine’s writing, and I am now an ardent fan. I eagerly anticipate delving into more of his works published by Wick House.
My sincerest appreciation goes to NetGalley and WickedHouse for providing me with the ARC.
